Homeschool Education Programs
Enhance your visit to the Central British Columbia Railway and Forestry Museum by adding a Homeschool Education Program.
The CBCRFM maintains that all students have the right to education, including the opportunity to discover local history. To accomplish this, we provide several “hands-on” lesson plans, which present supplementary knowledge about resources and extraction. Furthermore, the Education Programs are offered on-site, at the CBCRFM, through ‘program kits’, available through the front desk at the CBCRFM. These kits can also be checked out as take-home packages, with a deposit.
The Homeschool Education plans are designed to meet the current BC curriculum and big ideas, but can be adapted to fit many grade levels, and individual education plans.
Natural Resources & Extraction
The Natural Resources and Extraction program offers information on the relationship between people and the environment. Students will acquire knowledge on the ways in which we shape the local environment, and how our location shapes who we are and how we live. The program includes a variety of interactive ways to learn such as worksheets, hands on learning, as well as a tour of the equipment previously used to extract natural resources in Northern British Columbia.
Energy & Machines
The Energy and Machines educational program teaches students about the energy, force, and the technological innovations of the railway industry in Northern British Columbia. Moreover, the program offers information on the types of energy in relation to locomotives, as well as the impact of energy transformation on the environment. In addition, the education program includes a variety of interactive ways to learn such as worksheets, hands on activities, as well as a tour of the various ways in which railway equipment is powered in Northern British Columbia.
Forestry History
The History of Forestry in Northern British Columbia program provides students with the opportunity to learn about how forestry has developed across time. In addition, the program will teach participants about how trees are harvested, and the technology used in the process of extraction. Moreover, the education program includes a variety of interactive ways to learn such as worksheets, hands on activities, as well as a tour of the forestry equipment that was utilized in Northern British Columbia.
